About the Experience

Embark on a journey through Lucknow's regal past with our Kaiserbagh Heritage Walk. Explore hidden gems and architectural marvels that once formed the heart of the Nawabi kingdom, with our local guides! This 2-3 hour guided walk will take you through the fascinating history of Kaiserbagh, where royalty once lived, celebrated, and ruled. Each stop offers a glimpse into the grandeur of Awadh, with stories of heritage, architecture, and cultural richness.

Your walk begins at General Wali Kothi and covers iconic landmarks such as Farhatbaksh Kothi, Chattar Manzil, Lal Baradari, Gulistan-e-Eram Kothi, and more. You’ll discover the hidden beauty of Kaiserbagh’s Gol Darwaza and enjoy a peaceful moment at the Victoria Memorial and the Globe Park. The tour ends at Kaiserbagh Chauraha after a journey through Lucknow’s historical and architectural treasures, including the Kaiserbagh Complex and Roshan-ud-Daula Kothi.

Throughout the walk, your guide will share fascinating stories of Nawabi history, architecture, and cultural heritage. Enjoy hot chai and some bun makkhan along the way. You’ll also have plenty of photo opportunities to capture memories of your journey through this iconic neighborhood.

  1. General Wali Kothi (Starting Point) – An iconic residence of the Nawabs, known for its rich architectural heritage and ties to Lucknow's royal past.
  2. Farhatbaksh Kothi – A former royal retreat, now part of Lucknow University, showcasing a blend of royal leisure and academia.
  3. Chattar Manzil – Famous for its striking umbrella-shaped domes, this palace served as a residence for Nawabs and symbolizes Lucknow’s grandeur
  4. Lal Baradari – Once a royal court and British event venue, this red stone structure is a significant remnant of Awadhi and colonial history.
  5. Gulistan-e-Eram Kothi – Surrounded by lush gardens, this palace was a center of Nawabi festivities and leisure.
  6. Darshan Vilas Kothi – A Nawabi residence reflecting the architectural elegance of Lucknow’s aristocracy.
  7. Globe Park – To save time we will just walk by the place, the guide will do a quick explanation of this fascinating park, located in the heart of Lucknow. (No entry fee)
  8. Victoria Memorial – A colonial-era landmark, symbolizing British influence amidst Lucknow’s Nawabi heritage.
  9. Kaiserbagh Gol Darwaza (a hidden secret) – A lesser-known gateway within the Kaiserbagh complex, offering a glimpse into the hidden facets of the royal city.
  10. Saadat Ali Khan Tomb – The resting place of Awadh’s first Nawab, featuring grand Mughal architecture and a testament to the dynasty’s legacy.
  11. Kaiserbagh Complex (including Safed Baradari) – A grand palace complex designed by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, embodying a European-inspired vision of royal luxury.
  12. Roshan-ud-Daula Kothi – The former residence of a key administrative figure in the Nawabi era, showcasing intricate architecture.
  13. Kaiserbagh Chauraha (Ending Point) – A central junction connecting the legacy of Kaiserbagh with modern Lucknow, marking the end of the heritage walk.

What to Bring

  • Dress comfortably for the weather and wear suitable clothing for walking and local travel.
  • Suggested: Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat. (Also an umbrella if it's going to rain)
  • A water bottle and a little snack.

Important Notes:

  • Entry tickets for some stops are required: 50 INR for Indians and 500 INR for non-Indians; this price is for a full ticket which cover the Imambara, Chota Imambara and the Art museum. Guests pay for their own tickets - it is recommended to carry cash to buy these tickets, and your guide will buy it for you.
  • The walk is moderate in terms of difficulty and requires comfortable shoes for exploring the narrow lanes and historical sites.
